FAQ

Q. Is teeth bleaching safe?

When done properly and with a dental professional, teeth whitening is entirely safe. A check-up is needed before your bleaching appointment to allow the dentist to ensure you will achieve a uniform and even result. Only natural tooth enamel whitens, and existing fillings, crowns and veneers do not whiten; this will be checked for you prior to your whitening appointment to see if teeth whitening is suitable.

Q. Do I need to have my teeth cleaned before whitening?

It is best to have your teeth cleaned (and checked) professionally before a course of whitening, so the bleaching agent can sit evenly over the tooth surfaces. Plaque and calculus (tartar build-up) can obstruct the bleach in the areas accumulated.

Q. Is teeth whitening painful?

Although teeth whitening is not inherently painful, it can be very sensitive to some, especially if they have pre-existing teeth sensitivity issues. Your dentist will review this with you and let you know what to expect, especially if it’s your first time. If the procedure becomes too painful at any point, the dentist will stop and re-evaluate during the process. It is recommended to use sensitive toothpaste for 2 weeks prior to your whitening appointment, and continue with sensitive toothpaste after, to aid with the temporary sensitivity.
